The McMillan Legacy Group plans to build a series of community facilities in a new development on McMillan Island in Deptford, London. The London Development Agency said it would meet with Andrew Winter, the charity's co-ordinator, to see if it can "assist in any way".
Winter was disappointed the LDA had not stepped in to help after the charity failed to get the 20,000 needed to employ a project manager.
It hopes to build a nursery and learning centre beneath student accommodation to continue the work of Rachel and Margaret McMillan, founders of the world's first nursery in 1914.
