Childcare: London firms are urged to offer help

Businesses in London are being urged to recognise the benefits of providing childcare in a report that contains the views of care providers and employers.

The report, Expanding the quantity and quality of London's childcare, emphasises the need for employers to support parents living in the capital, who face some of the highest childcare costs in the country.

Companies that help staff with childcare and adopt family friendly working practices benefit from increased productivity, as well as reductions in staff absenteeism and turnover, it says.

The document, which includes examples of best practice from Britain and America, was produced jointly by the London Development Agency (LDA), the Daycare Trust and employer childcare provider Bright Horizons Family Solutions.

The LDA is to establish an employer consultation group to develop a good practice guide.
