Childcare & Early Years: Notts sets criteria for service funding

1 min read Early Years
A local authority has drawn up a list of preferred childcare providers to help meet its duties under the Childcare Act.

As part of the duty to provide sufficient childcare, Nottinghamshire County Council has created a preferred provider framework for nurseries, childminders and pre-schools to follow. Providers are added to the list and allocated project funding if they meet the criteria.

Nicola Hughes, early years and childcare service manager at the local authority, said: "Funding can be open to challenge. We have done this to protect us and the people we commission. It is a lot of money and we have to invest it wisely."

To meet criteria, providers must demonstrate a sound business plan for the project and show they have inclusive policies that benefit all children. The council also checks their Ofsted reports and financial details, such as previous bankruptcies.
