NCH's safeguarding manager Shaun Kelly said the issue did not meet thestrict criteria of a child protection concern: "We would want childrenand families in this position to get as much support as they can, butusing the child protection list isn't the best way to do it."
Blair's comments followed the Met's Response to Guns, Gangs and Knivesin London report, which recommended earlier intervention.
But Blair's comments were welcomed by The Children's Society. Thesociety's chief executive Bob Reitemeier said: "The Children's Societysupports approaches that encourage us to protect rather than prosecutechildren."
