Concerns that social workers have been singled out for blame over the death of Victoria Climbie have been raised after it emerged that no police officers will lose their job for failings in the case.
Ian Johnston, director of the British Association of Social Workers, said the decision "raises questions over whether social workers were treated unfairly".
Last week, the most senior police officer involved in the care of Climbie was cautioned after a misconduct hearing found him guilty of breaking the police code of conduct. Five other police officers who worked within the Metropolitan Police's child protection team at the time received reprimands in similar hearings.
But Lisa Arthurworrey, Climbie's social worker, and her supervisor Angella Mairs were sacked by Haringey council for gross misconduct in the case.
