Dare to Care aims to show how "direct action" can make a difference tothe lives of the 3.8m children in the UK living in poverty.
Volunteering can take many different forms, said Dame ElisabethHoodless, executive director of volunteering charity CSV, which isorganising the campaign with the Campaign to End Child Povertycoalition.
"Volunteers can improve the reading age of a child at school, supportthe families of children on the 'at risk' register and help families runmore fuel-efficient homes," she added. "Volunteers' practical helpinspires parents to prepare nutritious meals and claim their benefitsand rights."
Charities minister Ed Miliband welcomed the campaign: "Dare to Care isan example of the third sector speaking with one voice on a crucialissue."
