What is it? The Child Brain Injury Trust is a UK-wide charity supporting those affected by acquired brain injury – an injury to the brain that has happened after birth. The injury can affect the way a person thinks, feels and behaves and can, but does not always, affect them physically. The charity provides information, support and training and raises awareness of the impact ?of brain injury on the family.
How much is on offer? The charity’s small grants programme offers sums of up to £100 for children with an acquired brain injury and their siblings who are suffering financial hardship, so they can enjoy activities that other children may take for granted. Grants are not available for children and young people affected by genetic or degenerative disorders.
What will it fund? Grants are given for a number of purposes. These include buying equipment or materials for fun activities at school or home such as art, IT, sport or games. It can also be used to cover the cost of attending a training course, or paying for taxis or buses to social activities. Other uses include paying for day trips for the applicant and siblings, covering the cost of starting a new hobby or learning a new skill or joining a social club or a sports team. In some instances the grant is used to organise an event that raises awareness of the needs of children who have an acquired brain injury and their siblings.
When is the deadline? The grant programme has a rolling deadline and grants take up to four weeks to process.
