The Historical Abuse Appeal Panel, which backed former care worker Anver Daud Sheikh last week in his successful bid to quash his conviction for child abuse, has already received 120 requests and is aware of another 60-80 cases being handled by other lawyers, who are set to join forces with it.
Mark Newby, one of the solicitors who launched the panel last September, said he was also beginning to take enquiries from families who had been separated from their children as a result of social services enquiries.
The panel is talking to the Criminal Cases Review Commission about the criminal cases it is working on.
