Participants from as far afield as Honduras and Senegal last week joined young people from the UK and Ireland at Launde Abbey in Leicestershire to highlight the role they could play in the development of their communities. They brought together campaigning messages to produce a "passport out of poverty", a tool to argue that skills and sustainable employment are a solution to poverty.
The international visitors took the giant passport to the World Bank in London, to coincide with the UN International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on 17 October.
Sarah Leonard, campaigns and development education co-ordinator at Y Care International, said: "Too often, young people have no say in issues that affect them. We hope this will be a step towards changing that."
