Cafcass: Light touch from new chief needed

The new chief executive of the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service must introduce a "light management touch", say court guardians.

Alison Paddle, chair of guardian's organisation Nagalro, said Anthony Douglas, who joins Cafcass on 1 September, needed to change the organisation's structure and culture.

Douglas has 28 years' experience in social services and is director of social services for Suffolk. He is also chair of BAAF Adoption & Fostering and is an adoptee who was reunited with his birth parents. He will take over from Jonathan Tross.

Baroness Pitkeathley, chair of Cafcass, said Douglas had a "detailed understanding of children and family issues". She paid tribute to Tross for his "inspirational" leadership of the organisation through a "critical period".
