Bullying: Initiative to help schools and homes

Police are teaming up with youth workers, teachers and social workers to help schools and children's homes in Hampshire tackle bullying.

The aim of the multi-agency group is to help school teachers and staffat children's homes come up with ways to develop social skills,assertiveness and self-esteem. Parents will also be given guidance onwhat to do if their child is being bullied.

The initiative comes in the wake of a survey on bullying among Hampshirechildren that found a quarter had fallen victim to it in the lastyear.

Councillor Felicity Hindson, executive member for children's services'said: "The anti-bullying strategy group will enable schools andchildren's homes to develop policies to tackle bullying and to fosterattitudes of care and respect among children and young people."
