It encourages partnerships between independent and maintained schools, with grants on offer for collaborative projects. The Children's University programme will provide additional funding to those focused on increasing attainment in communities where educational achievement is generally low.
How much is on offer: The total fund is £4m. The DCSF is likely to invest in 15 to 20 partnerships over three years, with grants of about £50,000 to £75,000 a year.
What it will fund: Partnerships that seek to support gifted pupils and increase university admissions are favoured. Projects focusing on attainment in modern languages, science and maths from GSCE to university entry level will also be prioritised.
