Budget: Brown proves a hit with sector chiefs

An 8m fund to support workplace nurseries and 440m to help schools recruit and train teachers were announced in last week's Budget.

Chancellor Gordon Brown's tenth Budget was also used to launch a reviewof children's policies that will inform the Government's long-termspending plans.

The Budget proved a hit with children's groups including 4Children andNCH. Anne Longfield, chief executive of 4Children, said: "The Governmenthas again put children and childcare centre stage."

But some children's groups said the Chancellor needed to do more if theGovernment is to meet its child poverty targets. And One Parent Familiesexpressed concern at the decision to cut the Department for Work andPensions' budget.
