Brookside Community Primary School, Knowsley

1 min read Education Extra-curricular
What did they do? Brookside Community Primary School celebrated its 40th birthday by putting on a 1960s themed event to teach pupils about what is was like to go to school when Brookside first opened in 1969.

What did this involve? The day began with a research session on family and school life in 1969. In the afternoon, staff ran a competition using baby pictures from the 1960s. Pupils had to match the pictures to the teachers to win a prize.

What else did they do? Staff and pupils dressed up in 1960s fancy dress and teachers taught the children some playground games, including the nursery rhyme Oranges and Lemons. Staff and pupils sat down for a hippie street party at lunchtime, with food and decorations provided by Knowsley Council.

Why was it important? Brookside has been earmarked to merge with another school in two years, when it will be relocated to a multi-purpose building in the centre of Stockbridge Village. The school and council wanted to celebrate the successes of Brookside over the past 40 years, before it enters a new era.
