Charities can often feel like the Cinderella of children's services.While no one argues about their ability to make a difference to childrenand families, a lack of support can hamper what they do.
Research just out looks at what makes effective support. "Lots of localauthorities fund local infrastructure organisations to support thevoluntary sector so it's important for them to know how to get the bestout of their investment," says Dianne Leyland, director of developmentat Navca, the National Association for Voluntary and CommunityAction.
The Big Lottery Fund asked Navca to do the research to find out the bestway to spend money on infrastructure support for voluntary groups."There are so many enthusiastic individuals out there. Infrastructureorganisations make sure that their passion is used effectively. Peoplelike the mums from the local toddler group can go to these organisationsfor expert advice to ensure they don't reinvent the wheel," explainsLeyland. Advice can range from how to do Criminal Records Bureau checksto how to access training.
