A report looking at the experiences of children whose parents are in the armed forces has revealed that their education can be affected

"I am 11 years old. I have been at this school for about seven months. Ihave been to about five schools and moved house about 13 times."

The experience of this Colchester pupil is not unusual for childrenwhose parents are in the armed forces, according to Educating ServiceChildren, a report produced by Parliament's Defence Select Committee(Children Now, 13-19 September).

In one primary school serving a large garrison, 90 per cent of pupilswere service children. The committee was told the percentage of childrenmoving schools before the age of 11 reached similar levels.

Service children told MPs that they found it difficult to be accepted bystudents in new schools and, in the case of children moving between thefour UK nations, to adjust to new curriculums.
