Children in care are receiving a second-rate education, research byBarnardo's reveals.
A study by the children's charity surveyed 66 care leavers about theirschooling and compared the findings to a poll of 500 parents of childrenwho were not in care. The comparison exposed a huge gap between how thetwo groups experience school.
It found that while only six per cent of parents expected their child toget no GCSEs, 52 out of the 66 looked-after children had noqualifications on leaving school. And while more than half of the careleavers were unemployed, nine out of 10 parents of non-looked-afterchildren expected their child to go into training or further educationafter finishing school.
