Almost a year after the launch of the Government's drugs guidance for schools, pupils remember media reports about random drug testing but are unaware of their own schools' drugs policies, according to research by the Drug Education Forum.
Its survey, which reviewed progress made following guidelines on drug education and the development of policies to manage drug-related incidents, found input by parents, governors, teachers and pupils in developing school policy was minimal. Guidance remained in the hands of senior management teams in most schools.
Researchers, who consulted school governors from 15 primary and secondary schools, and teachers and pupils from two secondary schools, found concerns that materials for drug education were stereotypical and out of date.
