A new report shows progress has been made in the bid to end child poverty, but campaigners fear for those who could slip through the net.

The Government is congratulating itself on making significant progress in its efforts to eradicate child poverty. This follows the publication of statistics showing it has achieved many of its targets, but campaigners still fear for the future.

Figures published in the Department for Work and Pensions' sixth annual Opportunity For All report show steady progress is being made on reducing the proportion of children living in low-income households and in below-standard homes, and more children and young people are doing better at school and college.

By homing in on smaller geographical areas for the first time, policy makers have been able to identify pockets of deprivation within seemingly affluent areas, which the Government says will allow it to tackle poverty on a "street by street" basis.
