Homelessness among families has grown to unprecedented levels, accordingto new research.
Although official figures indicate that the number of homelesshouseholds in England exceeded 100,000 for the first time in 2004, upfrom 41,000 in 1997, a report from Barnardo's claims this figure is the"tip of the iceberg", with many homeless families left out of theofficial statistics.
Do My Kids Have to Live Like This Forever? explores the social housingcrisis and how this impacts on parents and children living in temporaryaccommodation. The report argues that the Government's ability to meetthe outcomes outlined in Every Child Matters is likely to be compromisedunless steps are taken to improve the accommodation of the thousands offamilies with children who don't have a permanent home.
