Children under the age of five are capable of being involved indecision-making processes about services in their community, accordingto the findings of a new report.
The report by Playtrain recommends that under-fives should be includedmore in discussions about developments in their local area that arerelevant to them.
The results are from a project in which a group of under-fives learnedabout human biology, exhibits in science museums and the development ofa nature area. Playtrain, a Birmingham-based agency that promoteschildren's creativity, used visits to two arts and cultural venues inthe West Midlands to get the children involved in decision making.
The children expressed themselves through play, photography, drawing'stories and discussion with facilitators of the project. They were alsoobserved sharing their ideas and helping each other come up withsolutions to problems.
