Hard-to-reach children and young people often appear to be left out of the decisions that affect them most. So new research commissioned by the Department for Education and Skills aims to show how different organisations are attempting to involve children and young people in decision-making.
Four out of five statutory and voluntary-sector organisations surveyed by The National Youth Agency and British Youth Council reported a high level of participation.
But the study, Mapping Children and Young People's Participation in England, revealed less success in working with hard-to-reach groups.
Report co-author Carolyn Oldfield said overall the results indicated "very real enthusiasm and excitement about involving children and young people and a lot of individual commitment".
