Childcare and flexible working are vital strands in efforts to bridgethe gap between men and women's pay, says a report by the Women and WorkCommission, which outlines an in-depth programme for change.
The report - Shaping a Fairer Future - sets out 40 recommendations totackle job segregation and the pay gap between the sexes, which persistdespite 30 years of equal pay legislation.
The proposals include better careers advice and work experience forchildren and young people, and measures to boost the quality ofpart-time work available to women. The commission was also impressedwith a programme called Women Like Us, which sees workers talking tomothers at the school gates about work opportunities.
