Babies tilting their heads could be revealing early tell-tale signs of Asperger syndrome, according to new research that suggests diagnosis could be determined years earlier than was thought. Scientists from Florida University found that six-month-old children who sloped their heads to one side could have this form of autism that affects an estimated 213,100 people of all ages in the UK.
The findings, published by US-based Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, are starkly different from previous research results. Britain's National Autistic Society says that studies suggested the average age of diagnosis for children with the syndrome was as late as 11 years.
