An Audit Commission study outlines ways that multi-agency working can protect communities from anti-social behaviour.

Another report about anti-social behaviour? Yup, but from anauthoritative voice, the Audit Commission, and looking at it from theangle of community safety, rather than as a clampdown on crime.

So what makes communities feel safe? According to the National CommunitySafety Plan, a number of cross-government developments: tacklingdisadvantage; empowering the community; introducing neighbourhoodpolicing; supporting victims and witnesses of anti-social behaviour andcrime; reducing the supply of drugs; making transport safer; andimproving public spaces. According to my neighbours: banning pub karaokenights and wall-to-wall coverage of the World Cup.

And according to the Audit Commission? Feeling safe is not alwaysrelated to the incidence of crime but is about quality of life. Thisstudy looks at how well agencies work together to improve communitysafety.
