Another report on behaviour in schools? Back in May, with the newGovernment settling in and ministers proclaiming their determination toinstil "Respect" into children, young people and binge drinkers, theminister of state for schools, Jacqui Smith, announced the establishmentof a practitioners' group on behaviour and discipline. The expert group,chaired by Sir Alan Steer, has published its recommendations in time toshape the latest education white paper.
The zero-tolerance approach to tackling classroom disruption? There'smore. For instance, the group has been looking at behaviour anddiscipline within the Every Child Matters framework and looks beyond theclassroom towards extended school services, and the wider schoolenvironment.
So who was in this practitioners' group? Thirteen headteachers andlearning behaviour specialists. They set out their core beliefs - andrefer to the famous 1989 Elton report, Discipline in Schools, whichremains relevant.
