Bridgwater centre to reopen

Youth Work
A youth centre in Somerset was set to reopen this week (on 18 October) after a cash injection of almost 4m.

The centre in Bridgwater will focus on sports and fitness activities, from climbing to water sports, but will also have a community radio station managed by young people, a café area and a community recording studio and conferencing facilities.

The centre has been revamped after a successful bid from YMCA Bridgwater to the Myplace programme. The youth centre will be carbon neutral, using solar panels, wind turbines and biofuel to generate energy.

Alongside staff from the YMCA, a range of agencies such as Connexions, Sedgemoor Primary Care Trust and Sedgemoor District Council will also use the facility to offer young people a range of advice on issues such as housing, careers and health and wellbeing.
