Body to survey mental health

A body set up by the government to improve children's mental health services will inform ministers about poorly performing areas and carry out regular surveys of young people.

Dame Jo Williams, the former Mencap chief executive appointed to chair the National Advisory Council on Children's Mental Health and Psychological Wellbeing, told CYP Now it will present an annual report to the Children's and Health Secretaries on the state of mental health services. "This will give them a real sense that progress is being made, highlighting good practice as well as areas that need more attention," said Williams.

The launch of the council was recommended by the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services review team, set up earlier this year.
