The agency, Together for Disabled Children, will support local authorities and primary care trusts as they develop short break services for disabled children and their families. It will also control funding for the creation of the local parent forums that the government wants established to help shape disabled children's services.
Steve Broach, campaign manager for Every Disabled Child Matters, said: "The national support body has a very important job to do. We need to make sure by April next year that all local authorities really do transform their short break services and it's very important the body is there to give them the support they need."
