The Tory MP for Maidstone and The Weald's recent television outing, Ann Widdecombe v the Hoodies on ITV's Tonight show, presented her experience of staying for a week at a time on the Andover Estate in Islington and Myatts Field in Lambeth. The programme showed a nightmare world where the decent majority were virtual prisoners in their own homes, terrorised by gangs of hooded youths and forced to live in dilapidated, vandalised surroundings. As the title suggests, most of the drama came from Widdecombe and her camera crew's attempt to confront groups of "hoodies", and the bleeped-out exchanges that followed. It made for entertaining TV but was this really an accurate portrayal of young people?
