Big interview: The youth work examiner

3 mins read

A PhD in economics and research on the impact of youth provision might seem like a peculiar qualification, but for Leon Feinstein its two key elements work together.

Feinstein, a reader in the economics of education at the Institute of Education in London, has carried out research for both the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) and charity 4Children's Make Space campaign on the value of youth work and feels much more needs to be done on the issue. He says his interest in the subject comes from his family roots.

"My mum runs a centre for bullied children who won't go to school because they hate it and she tries to help them get back on track," he says. "I think it's a family interest."
