Big Interview: Ready to take on Relate - Claire Tyler, incoming chief executive, Relate

She was deputy chief executive of the Connexions Service National Unit when Connexions partnerships were being established, ran the Social Exclusion Unit between 2002 and 2006, and is currently director of the Vulnerable Children's Group at the Department for Education and Skills.

But when she leaves the department next month to become chief executive of counselling organisation Relate, it will be her first foray into the voluntary sector.

"I have had a lot of contact with people in the voluntary sector," she says. "I felt that they had very interesting jobs, with the opportunity to try out new ideas, then feed them back into policy.
