BIG INTERVIEW: I fought the fares and I won - James Lamming, transport campaigner

2 mins read

He has stood for his school council, is a member of the West Sussex Youth Cabinet, and is vice-chair of Chichester Youth Council.

His battles with local authorities and transport operators to improve public transport for young people in his county have recently earned him recognition as one of 15 young people who have made a positive contribution to their communities by speaking out on issues they felt were important (see panel).

Lamming, who comes from the village of Walberton, near Chichester, was profiled for the UK Youth Parliament and telecoms firm BT's report Seen and Heard. He met children and young people's minister Margaret Hodge last week in London at the launch of the Big Listen campaign to raise funds for ChildLine. The campaign's aim is to highlight the importance of listening to young people's views.
