Transport: Suffolk's under-20s get cut-price travel

1 min read

The Youth Card initiative, approved by Suffolk County Council last week, is due to launch in January 2005. The card will be free for people under 20.

Bob Dool, the senior education officer at Suffolk County Council, said: "When we consult young people, transport is always a top issue. We are very excited about this scheme."

Kevan Lim, the councillor responsible for social regeneration, added: "Suffolk will be one of the few places with such a comprehensive travel scheme for young people."

The card was proposed in a 2002 council review called Moving People.

The council hopes to introduce half-price train fares and a spokeswoman for the regional train operator, One Anglia, said talks were still taking place. She added: "We know it will be a great benefit to the young people of Suffolk."
