BIG INTERVIEW: Grand designs in Norwich - Graham Dacre, social entrepreneur

2 mins read

At the start of the year, the charitable trust set up by Dacre paid 2.5m for an empty bank building in the centre of Norwich. What he wants to do is create a modern venue for young people, providing services as diverse as a study centre, a health clinic and an alcohol-free club. "We have to be able to offer something better than any nightclub," says Dacre.

By the end of 2004, the site will be transformed into a flagship venue bringing youth agencies under the same roof as a state-of-the-art entertainment and leisure complex, run exclusively for young people. The official age range for membership has been set at 13 to 25 to include the various statutory agencies, but it is estimated that the venue will be used primarily by the city's 18,000 13- to 18-year-olds.
