The programme will follow the celebrity gardener's attempts to set up a project in Herefordshire where young adults working with the Probation Service could develop a small farm, growing fruit and vegetables and tending livestock.
It is not the most obvious venture for a man better known for offering advice on daffodils and dahlias, but it has become a subject Don believes in passionately.
He is concerned that the use of heroin and crack cocaine in rural communities has become "endemic", and has just set up a charity, called The Monty Project, to help tackle the problem.
Don's ideas are a little unconventional. He believes working on the land provides a special way to help people deal with problems they are facing, including drug addiction.
