1 min read Youth Justice
The government is to test out a series of initiatives to support young victims of crime ahead of a nationwide roll out.

As part of the Youth Crime Action Plan, the Home Office is ploughing £500,000 into five pilot schemes in Derby, Lambeth, Norfolk, Lewisham and Oxfordshire.

These areas will pilot initiatives to bolster victim support services, including workshops on keeping safe, one-to-one support sessions for victims in schools and the creation of support groups for young victims.

Young people in the pilot areas will help with police training to improve the way officers deal with young victims. Sport will also be a focus, with victims being offered sports sessions to boost self-esteem.

Victims Advisory Panel member Kathryn Stone said: "The pilot projects are an important way of helping us understand the complex relationship between young people as victims and as offenders. This is an area often overlooked and we look forward to positive outcomes."
