Schemes in Derby, Lambeth, Norfolk, Lewisham and Oxfordshire will run safety workshops, school drop-in sessions and peer support networks. Young people will be able to report crimes anonymously through school intranets as well as take part in sports sessions to boost self esteem.
The pilot schemes, which are part of the £100 million Youth Crime Action Plan launched in July, will run for six months and then feed into a national roll-out. The five areas will produce plans to support young victims of crime at all stages, which will be used to guide the roll-out.
The pilots will be run by a organisations including Youth Offending Teams, the police, children's services, schools, voluntary organisations and Victim Support.
