
The future is looking bright for the British Association of Social Workers (BASW). Its membership is at record levels (18,000), last month its bid to take over a number of services previously provided by The College of Social Work (TCSW) was accepted, and it has a new five-year strategy in place that it hopes will increase its influence in the profession.
However, Bridget Robb, chief executive of BASW and one of the chief architects of the organisation's progress in recent years, will not be there to see the job through. Robb, who was installed as acting chief executive in September 2012, announced last month that she will retire next April. The 62-year-old says the decision was difficult to make, but is the right one for her and the association.
