Best thing I ever did: Shakire Richard, 17, Camberwell

I started getting involved in my community when I was 13, when I started writing for Southwark Young People's Magazine Project.

I wrote about things that happened in my area, then I started to get involved in health issues and wrote about sex and relationships. Now, I'm the magazine's health editor.

After starting on the magazine, I joined Southwark Youth Council and got involved in helping youth workers organise safe raves for young people.

I also helped set up a drop-in sexual health centre for young people.

I've always wanted to be an active part of the community. I now plan to go to university to study journalism.
