When I left school at 16, I worked with the local police and at the hospital, which offered me the job of clerical officer. I then took an Apprenticeship in management, which was funded by the Learning and Skills Council. I worked my way up to waiting list co-ordinator at the hospital's head and neck directorate and then became manager. I have to ensure we hit waiting time targets and that the admissions process runs smoothly.
