I took three placements to encourage people with mental and behavioural issues to express themselves through art. Seeing their successes helped me become more confident as I discovered what my strengths were. Being named as the Millennium Volunteer of the Year was just a bonus. It has helped me get a great job as a teaching assistant - and in a year's time I will be going to uni to do a PGCE in art.
