I was always getting kicked out of school, so I never learned to read or write very well. Pete was great because he realised what I wanted to do with my life and took the time to read things like application forms to me. With his help, I got a full-time job painting and decorating.
Recently, I won a Learning and Skills Council Max Award (below) for my achievements against the odds in work-based learning. Jean Pardoe, chief executive of Connexions Nottinghamshire, presented my award.
