Best thing I ever did: Jane Makin, 24, Chester

The best thing I ever did was go on the Neighbourhood Apprenticeship Scheme run by Crime Concern and Norwich Union. After I left university I had no on-the-job experience so I joined the scheme after seeing it advertised in the press.

I was based on the Blacon Neighbourhood Management Pathfinder scheme.

I always wanted to work with young people giving them drugs advice and was able to tailor my experience to that. I worked towards an NVQ Level 2 in community safety. I developed a bike scheme structured around repair and maintenance with young people, who got to keep the bikes. I now have a job with Blacon as a community safety project worker.
