Back Page: Social Claire - Simple beauty of outdoor fun

A walk on the wild side reminds Claire how great the countryside can be.

Years ago I lived in the south west and revelled in the beauty of sea, moors and forests. I'd walk the length of the beach with my nephew, jumping around on the sand. Families would be out with their dogs, throwing sticks and pebbles into the sea. Children running like they'dnever stop.

Then I moved to a more urban environment and became a city gal. I wouldthink nothing of spending hours on trains, moving and shaking andrubbing shoulders with the hoi polloi, talking about children's healthand wellbeing.

An adrenalin junkie, my partner called me. The sea and moors became adistant memory.

So, when I recently had the opportunity to go for a walk on Dartmoorwith an old friend, I jumped at the chance. A bit of exercise and allthat lovely fresh air would blow out the cobwebs and get rid of the citystress. I felt my shoulders drop after five minutes. Fabulous.
