Back Page: Social Claire - Shameful decay of dental care

1 min read
Claire is horrified that children are growing up without good tooth care.

Do you remember that poem Oh I Wish I'd Looked After Me Teeth by PamAyres? I thought of it last week. It went: "If I'd known I was pavingthe way, To cavities, caps and decay, The murder of fillin's, injectionsand drillin's, I'd have thrown all me sherbet away."

The reason for remembering it was rather embarrassing. During one of ourchildren's meetings, someone made a joke and, throwing my head back, Iguffawed. One of our girls looked horrified and spluttered: "Claire, look at the state of your teeth - you've got millions of fillings."Feeling like Jaws in the James Bond films, I turned red as a beetroot asthey asked for a second look. Needless to say I kept my gob shut. Thenthey started comparing fillings and I was delighted to hear that only acouple of them had needed to have any at all.
