A good friend is part of a campaign group that has been trying topersuade the local council to build an ice rink for our city. There usedto be one but, as skating became less popular, it shut.
I've never really seen the fascination, and also always thought that icerinks are a thing of the past. How wrong I was.
As with many cities across the UK, at Christmas, our council set up atemporary rink. It's amazing - you take a town square, fill it full ofice, build a little cafe and away you go. My friend was elated. "Iceskating is magic," she beamed. "You'll see."
