If you are in any doubt that email has completely changed the way you work, then just try switching it off for a few days. Go ahead. Pull the plug. And stand by for a big shock.

I should know. My plug was pulled when we moved offices back on 22 December.

And I've certainly been shocked at just how dependent I've become on electronic communication. Life without email is far worse than I expected. I'm even missing the spam.

At first it was a liberating experience. I think just about everyone is familiar with that sinking feeling when you log on and find out you've got a mountain of unopened emails to deal with. So when I heard that we wouldn't be connected for a few weeks, I wasn't that worried. In fact, I was quite looking forward to it.
