All good things must come to an end. And after four-and-a-half years of writing for Young People Now and nearly 200 columns, this really is my Last Word.
It all started with a speculative email asking whether I could write for the magazine. Much to my surprise, they let me have a go. Since then, I've just kept sending the columns in, and they've kept publishing them.
The original commission was to write a regular column about youth work and the experience of leading a local authority youth service. Looking back, I certainly interpreted that brief widely, covering topics as eclectic as sipping champagne with Angela Rippon and meeting a ferret for the first time - both very enjoyable experiences for very different reasons.
