This year's must-have item has to be the good-cause wristband. You must have seen them. You might even wear one. They come in every colour imaginable, usually embossed with a simple message or statement. They usually cost just a few quid, with all the proceeds going to fund a particular campaign or charity.

The bright yellow LiveStrong band seems to have started off the craze.

This one raises money for Tour de France hero Lance Armstrong's cancer foundation. And it's certainly caught the imagination of many, with a staggering 46 million LiveStrong wristbands having been sold worldwide.

Other popular ones include the white Make Poverty History band, endorsed by everyone from Blair to Bono, the blue Beat Bullying band from Radio 1, the pink band from Cancer Research and the interlocked black and white Kick Racism out of Football band.
